Work-Life Rigidity Partially due to Individuals, not Strictly Organizations

Work-Life Rigidity Partially because of Individuals, not Strictly Organizations Up to now, most analysis and calls for upgraded adaptability with respect to the work-life parity of representatives were focused on associations and the executives, however a volley of new discoveries from working environment and scholarly specialists is uncovering that chance loath representatives regularly add to the absence of adaptability in their lives. Cali Williams Yost, a main mastermind on working environment issues and author of the Flex+Strategy Group, opines: Weve spent about the most recent two decades getting out the organizations and the executives for the requirement for work life adaptability. Many have reacted, however now representatives additionally need to step up and attest control by making little, inconspicuous, useful decisions that nobody will see yet them. Brad Harrington, Executive Director of the Boston College Center for Work and Family includes, For more than 20 years, our Center has focused on the significance of authoritative culture, the correct kinds of the board support, and the best human asset arrangements and projects expected to encourage work life fit. Be that as it may, I have consistently focused on my conviction that eventually the individual must take care of this issue, must decide their fit, and should deal with the way toward accomplishing it. Examination performed by Yost and ORC International, in any case, found that seventy five percent of the populace accepts that work-life adaptability is just realistic by its arrangement by their manager/chief. The most normally recorded snags to work-life adaptability in the exploration were absence of a feeling of strengthening and worry from expanded outstanding burdens and abbreviated cutoff times. In any case, both Yost and Harrington feel that the working environment is significantly more adaptable and strong than before. Significant life occasions matter, said Yost, yet its the regular routine we long for and where representatives battle the most with overseeing work life fit. We cannot trust that HR or the manager will illuminate this contention for us. Representatives themselves need to oversee work life fit as an every day practice. And keeping in mind that it might be unreasonable, it begins by intuition little â€" by truly, perspiring the little stuff.

10 Tips To Foster Collaboration Within Remote Teams

New York Office: (917) Managing remote groups â€" 10 tricks to encourage collaboration Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, many group leaders have discovered themselves managing a distant staff for the first time. This brings with it completely different challenges and alternatives, but above all, it’s important to encourage collaboration within your team â€" particularly in times of uncertainty. Tiger’s Head of the Permanent Division within the West End, Missy Shutt-Vine, recently hosted a webinar with Tessa Cooper, Founder of Collaborative Future[1], HR and collaboration specialist. During the session, she supplied practical ideas for managers on tips on how to foster a collaborative setting whereas working remotely. Ten Tips to Encourage Collaboration Remotely Tessa says managers need to be “in a position to share the things they’re going through themselves, what’s new to them and what they’re struggling with”. In the present local weather, many people are apprehensive about supporting a team in a scenario the place nobody knows how long it's going to last or its future implications. If that is you, talk openly and transparently with your staff, as this will allow them to essentially understand your state of affairs. You can’t “have all of the solutions for everybody all the time”, she says. Managers need to be “in a position to share the things they’re going by way of themselves, what’s new to them and what they’re struggling with”. This additionally sets an example in communicating the best way you’re working. Whether that’s “signalling to your group when you’re coming on-line or if you’re leaving for lunch. Or it could possibly be on a a lot bigger scale, [such as] the way you set…flexibility…for your self [due to] kids at residence…or caring obligations. You can also be affected by anxieties and stress, so ask for the flexibility you need out of your staff to reveal to them that it’s OK to ask for [the identical from you]”, Tess explains. Missy provides that, “In this situation, communication is key! Despite not being able to be face-to-face together with your distant group, constantly keep in touch so you can empathize with their challenges on each the work and private facet.” While this is an uncertain period for everybody and should deliver with it high stress and anxiousness, it’s important to attempt to, “see this as a possibility to take a pause as a staff. Your routine [and the way in which you communicate] may need changed, [so] speak about what your expectations are of each other and how this alteration may be greatest managed collectively”, Tessa explains. If you and your group now have the house and time to work on things you’ve never had the pr ospect to before, benefit from it! Tessa says that might embrace “an entire host of things â€" a brand new technique, group-building, studying new skills together [or engaged on] private improvement.” It will allow the staff to really feel concerned in the plan of action over the next few weeks, motivating them to dive head-first into this new focus. If you and your team at the moment are working from house, it could really feel such as you get to the tip of the day and notice you’ve not ticked one factor off your to-do listing because of the endless stream of phone calls and video meetings! If that is you, Tessa suggests that you “should feel comfortable sharing with [your] groups that it’s having a knock-on impact on [your] work. A lot of people don’t understand that their managers have plenty of other things to give attention to, so we actually need to work on being a lot more open with our groups and sharing the pressures on us.” Communication and collaboration go hand in hand! A sensible solution may be a shift in pondering with our calendars. Instead of “blocking out time [the place] we have to focus on one particular thing”, Tessa has seen it work far more successfully if “you possibly can block out time that individuals can proactively make appointments with you. That way, [your group] is aware of…there’s a piece of time in the day or week the place you're having one-to-one conversations.” She says this has different benefits too, because it “may even assist you to with task switching, which is another difficult thing when you’re jumping on and off calls: It’s actually exhausting to sit down for the 20 minutes you could have between calls to crack on with one thing else.” Managers additionally could possibly use this time to begin to implement extra of a coaching mindset with their staff, to allow them the scope and ability to come up with ideas and make selections for themselves. “That’s a for much longer-time per iod thing around how you guarantee individuals are much more self-adequate”, Tessa explains, however it could enable the strain to be launched slightly on a manager whose staff continuously looks to them for guidance. In occasions of crises, managers and business leaders must balance internal communication very carefully. Tessa says that “there’s a real threat of beneath-speaking now you’re not primarily based in an workplace collectively and [are] potentially working different hours from each other.” However, understand that “individuals are already feeling a heightened sense of stress in all sorts of how, so businesses must tread a careful line between the forms of communication they send out [and] how regularly [they are sent].” Also, think about the timing of those messages. For instance, don’t ship anything which will provoke nervousness or questions “late at night, when people are about to log off and go spend time with their households â€" that is unhelpful as it is going to trigger them stress overnight and received’t permit them to talk to their managers about it”, Tess says. This might cause negative emotions within a remote group, hindering an open and collaborative surroundings. Alongside worrying about your team’s well being and well being, you’re most likely additionally feeling uncertain and anxious in regards to the current state of affairs. Tessa has seen that, “one of many challenges is about how you handle your personal stress, worries and fears in order that they don’t have a knock-on impact for people who find themselves additionally experiencing [the same factor].” Whether it’s “stress to do with the coronavirus outbreak, utilizing new expertise and methods of working, [or] feeling like you may be judged in your ability to handle this sort of change, [realize] that everyone is in the same situation.” It’s unprecedented and there isn’t a information guide to comply with â€" so you’re allowed to m ake mistakes! Tessa means that “managers [ought to take] time to consider ways to release their stress, [including] taking breaks from work once they need it [or] doing things outside of work [they take pleasure in]. [This means] when they're working with individuals and are relied upon to reply troublesome questions, they aren't projecting that stress and anxiety onto other people.” “Teams within companies have all been affected very differently,” Tessa explains. “Up till now, lots of businesses suppose that being truthful is about treating everyone equally. [However], the truth is that this case is impacting folks a lot in a different way.” For example, some entrance-line teams may discover their workload has significantly decreased due to the pandemic, whereas others, like operations, could discover they’re busier than before. Missy adds, “I think the one thing that everybody has in widespread at the moment is that things are unsure. We’re all making an attempt to alter and adapt to work out the subsequent steps ahead as best we will.” “So,” Tessa continues, “it’s really necessary that managers take time to know what each individual in their team needs and how they can finest be supported by way of this time.” It’s additionally a good idea to encourage your distant team to take this into account when collaborating with others throughout the company. “The most essential thing a manager can do right nows really seeing this as a chance to future-proof your group and business,” Tessa says. “I don’t suppose there’s any going back to regular or the best way things had been. Some persons are going to now [anticipate] more flexibility as a result of they'll truly see that it’s helped them to do their job. Other individuals are going to continue to be affected by the previous few weeks, even after the state of affairs has passed.” “So, I assume making time to really work out what’s important as a company and as a gro up [is a good idea].” Experiment with new methods of working, like implementing flexible hours, upgrading distant systems, or trying new methods to collaborate with online applications corresponding to Trello[2] or Monday[three]. Tessa says that “whereas the instruments we use are important, most important are the individuals you’re working with. Without these people, you possibly can’t do the work that you need to do, [which implies] you don’t have a enterprise. Now is an important time to make sure we’re actually looking after our folks in a method or another and giving them the assist they need. In terms of these wants, [managers should be flexible]…to assist those folks in the best way that fits them.” Tessa explains that “the opposite factor I’ve been encouraging teams to do is concentrate on what they do know is definite.” Identify this stuff first, whether or not or not it's your company mission, your buyer base or your dedication to your employees and u se these as a method to encourage your distant staff. It’s “just [about] reiterating the essential issues that aren’t going to falter in a technique or another.” They will discover this comforting and “have the ability to hold onto that” when finishing up their work and communicating with others. There are a few things you are able to do to facilitate staff collaboration past the company-extensive meeting. Tessa shares that she’s “seen plenty of teams learning or [taking] online courses collectively and sharing the [lessons]. [For instance, they'll] self-manage workshops utilizing Zoom, [or check out] an online studying platform [where the group] can all come collectively to learn, [such as] Future Learn[4] or EdX[5]”. It is probably not the first thing on your thoughts when encouraging your team to collaborate remotely, but the fun and social facet of work can bridge the geographical divide between colleagues. Missy explains that, “at Tiger, keeping up our socia l interplay has been actually essential while we’re remote working. One of the initiatives we’ve put in place is a weekly running competitors on Strava. This week, we’ve challenged our staff to attract the funniest-looking GPS monitor on their daily run. This is simply one of the methods we’re attempting to get the enterprise to all come together whereas we’re apart.” The fun and social facet of labor can bridge the geographical divide between colleagues. Tessa suggests that “simply having distant cups of tea and issues like that [help], as you don’t get to stop off at the kitchen and chat with individuals [anymore].” Other ideas embody: Trying these is a great way to advertise staff bonding, considering know-how offers us so many alternatives to stay linked while online. In this article I will be sharing with you some Fiverr resume writing tips that will allow you to write a Fiverr resume that gets the job that you want. These are no-brainers when it comes to getting a job.First, make sure that your resume is concise. You may have heard of a 'word-to-life' model, which describes how words can transport you to a new place. This is also a good way to explain why your Fiverr resume should be more condensed than your full length resume. The goal is to get the job, not to take up valuable real estate on the resume.Second, you need to list down all of your skills in order of priority. List your technical skills first, and then try to list your leadership skills next. Then move on to your abilities in customer service and finally your sales skills. If you can take on more than one skill at a time, that is even better. You can put them all into categories, such as Web Design, Social Media Marketing, etc. Keep in mind that it is better to list your skills first instead of letting the employer see your lack of skills. You can also use bullet points in your Fiverr resume writing. Not only do they save you from having to type out the same information in large blocks of text, but they can actually help you save money because of the formatting options that they offer. Also, using bullet points to describe your abilities in a particular skill is also a great way to give your reader a visual demonstration of the type of skills that you have in that area.It is also a good idea to list your experience with any relevant projects that you have done before. Using this information you can add a little bit of context to what you have done, explaining your pr evious projects. These can also help you explain your previous experiences, which can be very useful if you end up needing to apply for a job where your experience would not apply. Finally, it is important to have your Fiverr portfolio listed with your resume. This should also include all of your online work as well as any relevant work experience that you have in the past. This is really the only way that you can truly showcase your skills, and also give a clear demonstration of your potential.Keep these Fiverr resume writing tips in mind when you are creating your Fiverr resume. This way you will be able to write an effective Fiverr resume that will get you the job you want!

Procedures for Reporting Spills

Procedures for Reporting Spills Procedures for Reporting Chemical Spills in Emergencies and Non-Emergencies Chemical spills in the environment can have a devastating impact on environmental health. These toxins can soak into the ground, get into the water, or can become airborne and enter the human body, causing serious health consequences. These incidents however are preventable if proper protocol is followed. Natural disasters pose a huge risk to chemical storage. In addition to damages from wind, floods, fires and earthquakes, natural disasters often cause dangerous substances to be released into the environment from chemical storage facilities. This can have devastating impacts on wildlife and humans alike. If you witness a dangerous substance being spilled into the environment as a result of an accident or otherwise, the EPA has a list of guidelines on how to handle each situation. This is a vital part of Environmental Emergency Response Training. Emergency Spills.  If you witness a spill which poses an immediate threat to environmental or public health, this is considered an emergency. Substances include oil, chemical waste, radiation, biological spills, and anything into international waters. Please call the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802 to report immediately. Emergency spills can be human-caused, as well. If you witness any of the above occurring not as a result of natural disaster, please call the National Response Center at the number above as well. How to Report a Spill or Chemical Release.  You will need to report a spill or release when the spill or release exceeds federal limit for the given substance. When you report a spill or chemical release to the EPA, you will need to provide as much information as you can. A guideline of report criteria can be found at https://www.epa.gov/emergency-response/what-information-needed-when-reporting-oil-spill-or-hazardous-substance-release. Non-emergency Spills.  Non-emergency spills may also occur during a natural disaster event. These spills may be in the form of pesticide or minor chemical spills. If you believe the situation is an emergency, call the National Response Center at 1-800-424-8802 to report it. If you do not suspect that human health is immediately in danger, call the National Pesticide Center for pesticide spills at 1-800-858-7378 or the CHEMTREC for chemical spills at 1-800-424-9300 for further instruction. Do not attempt to handle any chemical you are not familiar with. Ingestion of a Toxic Substance.  If you or another person has ingested or become exposed to a dangerous or unknown substance, call the poison control center immediately at 1-800-222-1222. If the person is unconscious, has trouble breathing or has convulsions, call 911 as this is a medical emergency and human health is seriously at risk. Never touch, directly smell or taste an unknown substance. Many substances which are odorless and clear are dangerous. Report a Violation.  Harmful substances are released into the environment regularly, and this is preventable. Environmental violations are not emergencies because they do not put health immediately at risk. Violations include smoke and particulate emissions which exceed legal limit, improper treatment of hazardous waste, unpermitted dredging of wetlands, illegal dumping and illegal pesticide use. These actions diminish the quality of the environment which we all share and can lead to health problems. Please report any of these actions to the EPA at www.epa.gov/tips . Violations of this nature can also be handled by the respective states environmental agency or regional EPA office. When disposing toxic substances, follow the guidelines provided to prevent an accidental spill and subsequent environmental damage. Additionally, you can utilize historical data about previous spills by visiting the United States Coast Guard National Response Centers website. For more in-depth training, take one of our online HAZWOPER courses.

Understanding THE 2 Types of Job Interview Questions - milewalk

Understanding THE 2 Types of Job Interview Questions - milewalk Understanding THE 2 Types of Job Interview Questions If you are preparing for a job interview and youve already performed research on yourself, the company, and perhaps the interviewer, you essentially have what I refer to as static intelligence. It is the information you use to create your game plan. You start to think about which questions might come and which questions you should ask. I love planning, but I think the most effective plans not only have backup plans, they also leave enough room to take forks in the road and go with the flow. As former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson once said, “Everyone has a plan ‘til they get punched in the mouth.” I gather some interviews may have felt like that, but I think the smartest, most effective and creative candidates do not get rattled because they know how to adapt whenever they encounter something unique or “off book.” Gaining a better feel for how to handle these situations starts with understanding the two types of job interview questions. Once youre familiar with those, you ll be on your way to success. I want to know what you did or what you will do. The good news for you is that I genuinely believe there are only two types of questions an interviewer can ask. They are “What did you do  â€¦?” and “What would you do  â€¦?” That is it. Every question, however disguised, can be classified into one of those two categories. Once you recognize the question type, you can formulate your response accordingly to ensure the interviewer develops an accurate picture of your viewpoints and capabilities. Why is it important to understand the type of question? So you can overcome one of the most common communication gaps in any interview. I’ll share more on this later.   Please tell me what I need to know, not what I ask for. When an interviewer asks a “What did you do?” type of question, she wants you to relive what you said or did in the past so she can determine whether you possess what she considers the requisite skills, personality, or traits to succeed within her organization. If the majority of her questions are of this variety, it is a good indication she thinks your past experiences will be a strong indicator of whether you will be successful. When an interviewer asks a “What would you do?” type of question, she wants you to simulate how you would approach and execute the scenario or problem she posed. Oftentimes, she will identify a real-life business issue the company has faced. (Sometimes, you will get the oddball fictitious situation. In that case, the interviewer is more interested in evaluating your overall thought process.) If the majority of her questions are of this variety, it is an indication she trusts your work history and is more interested in evaluating your potential capabilities. The interviewer’s ultimate goal, irrespective of approach, is to determine how you will perform within her organization. Some employers favor the historical approach (“What did you do?”), believing that past behaviors and experiences are great predictors of future behaviors. Many employ the Critical Behavioral Interviewing (CBI) concepts, which have been around for decades. (You can do a Google search for information related to CBI and easily find the most commonly asked questions and suggested responses.) Others favor a more simulated approach (“What would you do?”), arguing that addressing real-life scenarios you are likely to encounter are a better indicator. Some companies approach the process from both angles, which is the technique I favor. The list below shows ways interviewers can disguise a question, even though ultimately every one will fall into either category. This should help you identify the question type during the interview. “What did you do?” Tell me about yourself. Why did you leave your most recent company? What do you know about our company? Why should we hire you as opposed to someone else? Can you tell me about a time when [insert any Critical Behavioral Question here]? Can you tell me about your Rolodex? What is your management style? “What would you do?” Why would you leave your current organization? Why would you want to work here? What would be your next ideal position? How long will it take you to get up to speed or make a contribution? Describe your ideal boss. What would your ideal boss look like? What would you improve about your current company or job? What’s the first thing you would do if we hired you? Why is it important to be able to determine the question type? It will help put you in a position to overcome the most common communication gap in any interview. Before we address that, let’s review some of the issues you will need to overcome in the interview and why the communication gap occurs in the first place. Keep in mind, the vast majority of interviewers are untrained in either technique and, even worse, are ill equipped to accurately predict your success based on your responses (even if they are correct). Remember, you are often sitting across the table from someone who has a full-time noninterviewing job, just like you. Typically, the company threw that person in front you, perhaps with a list of questions, but more likely she is simply winging it. And the interviewer is likely to spend merely an hour with you. Where does that leave you as the candidate? Well, at least it is helpful simply to understand the situation. This will put you in the right frame of mind to actually help her overcome her individual lack of experience and training as an interviewer or limitations with the overall process. Ultimately, you want to leave her with an accurate, favorable impression of you. The communication gap typically results from an interviewer’s imbalance of the two techniques, which leaves her with insufficient information to determine whether you can actually perform well in the job. Typically, the interviewer’s line of questioning falls short of gathering enough evidence because she becomes overly reliant on the simulation questions (“What would you do?”) and never follows through with “What did you actually do?” My years as a recruiter have been filled with many feedback sessions from clients who explain, “Your candidate provided all the right answers when I asked her how she would do it, but I’m still not sure she can do the job effectively.” This is usually followed by my question, “What makes you think that?” The client typically responds, “Because she didn’t indicate any times during her career in which she actually did it.” My response, of course, is, “Did you ask her?” You get the picture. The interviewer drew a conclusion based on a lack of information that resulted from a lack of effective questioning. (Your inability to read her mind didn’t help.) So what should you do to avoid this situation? Make sure to provide the interviewer with an opportunity to gather information from your historical experience. You can eliminate the gap simply by following your remarks to a “What would you do?” question with a question such as, “Mr. Interviewer, I hope that provides you with a good idea of how I would handle that situation. Would you be interested in discussing a scenario in my past where I actually encountered that situation (or a similar one)?”

Dust Off Your Professional Development Plan

Dust Off Your Professional Development Plan Professional development is offered as a perk at many companies so their employees continue to grow their skills. Whether it is an annual conference or several training seminars, employees often have several opportunities to continue their development. Professional  Development Is It Worth It? Most times, we are told about the professional development opportunities when we are first hired. But, after time, do we take advantage of them? When the classes come up do we feel that were too busy to take a day off just to learn a few new things? Do we feel like we will be punished for going to a training seminar by having to work weekends to make up the work that we missed? While you may have to work extra hours to make-up for the missed work, think through the long-term benefits of the training. This advice can apply anytime you have to make a trade-off between short-term goals and long-term aspirations. Ask yourself the following: What skills will you learn? Can you apply them directly to this job? Can you apply them to other jobs? Will they make you a more valuable employee to the company (especially around performance review time)? Will they allow you to move to the next position you were striving for? Will the new skills make you a highly sought after candidate for a new job at a new company? Professional Development  Shouldnt Stop Once we graduate from college, our learning shouldn’t stop. Continuous learning can benefit us in many ways. Whether you are taking a class to learn new skills or reading an industry blog to find out where your industry is headed, we can utilize this knowledge in our career development. This knowledge and these skills can set us up for success in our current job or close the gap on the skills we need for a promotion. Take an inventory of what you are doing to learn new information or skills: reading industry publications/websites, taking training courses, attending annual conferences, attending lunch-and-learn meetings, joining networking groups, volunteering, etc. Once you have a grasp of what you are doing, ask yourself â€" what should you be doing? Make a plan to fill in some of those gaps in your current professional development plan. You will have to make some short-term sacrifices but taking this action now will only benefit you in the future. Tell us about your career development plans in the comments section below. What has helped your career the most?

This 10-minute night routine guarantees success your next morning

This 10-minute night schedule ensures achievement your next morning This 10-minute night schedule ensures achievement your next morning Configuration bests self discipline. - ? B.J. Fogg, Stanford psychologistEvery night before heading to sleep, you can have the inclination, I definitely realize tomorrow will be successful. This is the inclination you need to have. You need to envision success. You need to be so energized you nearly can't get to sleep. You need to know EXACTLY what's going to happen. You need to be intellectually dedicated to explicit activities and outcomes. You need to have everything set up so you've totally evacuated all contact and dynamic when you get up the following morning.Instead, you need to wake up and have quick vitality since you know precisely what you will do, and you've laid everything out. Here's the manner by which it works:The straightforward study of conduct changeAccording to Stanford analyst, BJ Fogg, Plan bests resolve. What he implies by this is, human conduct by and large defaults to what is most convenient. If there is shoddy nourishment in your cooler, you're presumably going to e at it.However, if there is lousy nourishment sitting right on your kitchen counter or table - out in the open - your odds of eating it skyrocket. When something is simple and helpful, we regularly act without considering our conduct. We default to the circumstance at hand. You can use this to your benefit.BJ Fogg has discovered that by just setting a bit of dental floss on your restroom counter close to the sink, that your odds of flossing increment exponentially.Hilariously, a great many people don't floss in spite of accepting they should, basically in light of the fact that there is a lot of choice exhaustion engaged with doing as such. At the end of the day, there is grating to settling on the real choice, and if there is contact, we most likely won't do it, not to mention make a propensity out of it.In the instance of flossing our teeth consistently, what is that rubbing? Opening a cabinet Locate the little box of dental floss Open the crate Measure the correct size of floss Pull out a piece and afterward… begin flossing Those small scale moves may just make 5â€"10 seconds to execute, yet they are very burdening to an individual's self control over time.If rather, you basically needed to stroll into the washroom and saw a bit of dental floss hanging tight for you close to the sink, you'd naturally simply get it and start flossing. In different words, the choice was at that point made dependent on the current circumstance. The prior night when you put out that dental floss there, you settled on the choice. That choice is presently affecting your quick conduct, and you don't need to sit and waffle. You simply execute. Done.Make all choices the night beforeDecision weakness is the logical term for self discipline, and what it truly implies is that you haven't really made a decision. The reason individuals' resolution gets depleted and drained after some time is that they are saying something their psyche what they need to do. At the end of the day, they haven't really chosen at this point. They're despite everything considering it.Do I floss my teeth? Or on the other hand not today?Do I eat the treat? Or on the other hand pass it up?Do I wake up at 6? Or then again hit the nap button? In these situations, the individual is wavering to and fro. They don't really have the foggiest idea what they're going to do.Are they going to floss or not? Who knows. Are they going to eat the treat or not? Who knows. Are they going to get up ahead of schedule? Who knows. They surely don't know. And this is the reason individuals' self control gets exhausted. The inverse of choice weariness is just to settle on a choice. At the point when you settle on a choice, that implies you cut off elective options. The most noticeably awful time to settle on endeavor settling on a choice is while laying in bed, tired and comfortable and semi-oblivious. In such a circumstance, in the event that you haven't just chosen what you would do, and set up conditions to get it going, at that point you really don't have a clue w hat you're going to do.And this is the place choice weakness sets in. This is the reason being steady and ground-breaking and inspired can appear to be so irregular and inconsistent.Make a couple of key choices the night beforeIf you have multiple needs, you don't have any. - Jim CollinsThe most key thing you can do in your night schedule is choosing what you will do the following morning. Harvard clinician, Ellen Langer, considers this a psychological commitment. This implies you really compose it down. You record when you're going to wake up. What's more, you record the main 1â€"3 things you mean to achieve with your morning. However, recording what you intend to do isn't really a commitment. In request to guarantee you succeed, you have to expel ALL FRICTION. At the end of the day, you have to set everything up the prior night, so when you wake up, you truly have nothing to do except for get up and get moving. If you intend to go to the exercise center, at that point you have the enti rety of your workout clothes spread out by the front door.If you plan on taking nutrients and different enhancements, you have those spread out close to your workout clothes with some water previously sitting there. If you haven't evacuated every small scale choice, which go about as grating and choice weariness, at that point your odds of getting up are far less likely. Why?Because you have a few things you have to do.It's the explanation you don't floss your teeth normally despite the fact that you figure you should. You haven't yet chosen if you are going to floss You haven't expelled the grinding by basically setting up the earth with the goal that it's advantageous and for all intents and purposes subliminal Putting everything togetherHaving an astounding morning schedule is probably the best thing you can do in your life.If you get great at morning schedules, you'll experience a gigantic move in your life. Truly, with a strong morning schedule, you could immediately become fruitful at whatever it is you need to do.With an astounding morning schedule, you begin to carry on with your life deliberately. You quit living as a matter of course. You begin pondering, picturing, and deliberately arranging out your objectives. You at that point start living your days on a higher plane of action and attitude. You start to see achievement more since you tune your mind in to see things you were unable to see previously. Your eyes can just observe what your cerebrum is searching for. Subsequently, a great many people's cerebrums are far less viable than they could be on the grounds that their mind is just on autopilot, reacting to whatever is going on in their environment. The opposite of this is to sp end your vacation, which is generally in your night, taking 10 minutes to choose what you will do the following morning and placing everything in place. It's actually that straightforward. Choose what time you're going to wake up and set the caution for that time (however put your telephone or morning timer in an alternate room so you truly need to get up to turn it off). Have a couple of key targets for your morning Set up truly everything that should be set up with the goal that you don't need to squander mental vitality during your morning On the off chance that you aren't roused to get up in the first part of the day, this is on the grounds that you bombed the night before. You made it hard on yourself. You set yourself up for failure. While laying in bed in the wake of awakening, you're in no condition to settle on ideal choices. The more smaller scale steps you need to finish to BEGIN your morning exercises, the more uncertain you are to do them.Make the choice the night before.Put everything set up so it's advantageous and mindless.Start doing this consistently and watch what happens.Your conduct will change.Your inspiration will change.Your certainty will change. Why?Because when you start settling on evident choices, at that point you quit managing choice weakness. You start just working how you need to work. You quit carrying on with your life in a steady condition of pondering, What am I going to do?You quit pummeling yourself for constantly misleading yourself about awakening or proceeding onward your fantasies an d projects.Instead, you begin constructing genuine certainty and character by living intentionally. You begin gaining immense ground since you become predictable. You do what you said you would do.You're excited.Every night when you head to sleep, you're similar to, Tomorrow first thing will be amazing. And then you get up a few hours after the fact and you're similar to, How about we go!Then you execute.Overtime, you see gigantic progress.Your life is in your hands. But you need to settle on the decision. The inverse of choice is choice exhaustion. How To Convert Your LinkedIn Profile into a Fine Looking Resume

How To Convert Your LinkedIn Profile into a Fine Looking Resume One of LinkedIns true hidden gems is the free resume building service launched last year, which I have just been testing out. At first I thought it would be very basic and not all that useful. I was wrong. The resume builder was developed by LinkedIn labs, meaning its an experimental tool but still developed in-house by the LinkedIn team. We can safely say that there is a need for a resume builder function on LinkedIn and I assume this is the Beta testing of it before they integrate it fully on LinkedIn proper. How does the resume creator work? Very simple. First off make sure you are logged in to LinkedIn. Then click on to the LinkedIn resume tool and sign in with your LinkedIn passport. The next thing you know youll have an auto-generated CV which mirrors all the information on your LinkedIn profile. This obviously means that the better thats been filled in, the better the CV. How do you edit your resume? There are eleven different templates that you can play around with to suit your industry, seniority and purpose of the resume. Just like with your LinkedIn profile, you can shuffle the sections of your resume around and even hide the ones you think are irrelevant to your new resume. The one thing you cannot do in the resume builder tool is to change specific details like job titles, dates and so on this is done on your regular LinkedIn profile and updated automagically to your resume or CV. Benefits of using the resume builder As we all know it’s a bit tricky to keep your LinkedIn profile and resume completely synched. On top of that, it’s a slog to have to update stuff in two places. You can easily change the template, style and decide exactly what goes up on the resume as opposed to the LinkedIn profile. You can choose to share the resume straight from the application or you can set it to private. Finally, you can download your new CV as a PDF and email or print. Is this the kiss of death for resume writers? I don’t think so, whilst the LinkedIn resume creator does churn out pretty good looking resumes it doesn’t customize them at all. A resume writer’s main role in my opinion is to write excellent copy and lay things out in a compelling fashion for your target audience.   LinkedIn’s new tool does provide the average job seeker with a nice template resume but this has never been the be all and end all when there is any competition for a particular vacancy. Final thought LinkedIn know that their platform is the place to be for all things career and professional networking. By giving the world this free resume and CV feature, they ensure that everyone that uses the resume builder will keep their LinkedIn profile up-to-date and perfectly crafted for success. Have you tried the tool yet? Please let me know your feedback! Further reading about LinkedIn at  10 LinkedIn Tips To Get You the Job.

The Most Engaged UK Recruitment Women on LinkedIn

The Most Engaged UK Recruitment Women on LinkedIn LinkedIn UK have compiled a top 10 power user  list of the most engaged UK women in the  recruiting industry on the world’s largest professional network. The power user list, which includes professionals from across the UK and from a mixture of large and small recruiting agencies as well as large organisations such as the BBC and Harrods, is a snapshot of the wide range of talent acquisition professionals using  LinkedIn in their career. LinkedIn compiled the list by looking at a range of engagement metrics including status update frequency, network strength, engagement in groups and a number of other factors. This power user list comes off the back of  new research  from LinkedIn which shows that 66% of professional women in the UK believe it is possible to have it all (fulfilling  career, relationship and children)  in todays working environment. The research also identifies that the majority of women in the UK (62%) define professional success as having the right balance  between work and personal life, compared to 40% five to ten years ago. Here at The Undercover Recruiter we like to share best practices from the recruitment world so we set out to ask these women their best LinkedIn tips. Here is the list: Laura King of The Curve Group: The advice I always give people (recruiters or otherwise) is that LinkedIn is a tool and should be used as such. Keep your profile up to date and fully populated. Network widely, join groups, read discussions, share updates, seek opinions, engage and respond. LinkedIn is a networking tool and not a candidate pool as a recruiter, yes, you will find candidates via LI, and yes, you will contact them via LI but a good recruiter will also be looking for MI (all the time!), to build their network (widely), to map the market and will be happy to chat, share market info and advise if possible. Jennifer Howlett of Vertex Solutions International: My tip would be to use LinkedIn to share and talk about what affects you at work. As someone who is really just starting out, LinkedIn is a valuable learning tool as I talk to CEOs and Directors on a daily basis. Grace Solanki of the BBC I guess my best LinkedIn tip would be to try and be enagaged and keep in contact with them on at least on a monthly basis with your contacts so you know what is going on in the Recruitment world in my case. It gives both yourself and them a chance to have a catch up and see if they or I can help in terms of recriting for a role. Also advertising roles on your status on Linkedin is a great way to connect with great connections or search for people and add to your connections list for future reference. Zoe Lloyd of Arrows Group Sharing unique content in your field allows you to open debate with connections, for them to share to others outside your network and places you as hub for discussion in your network. Donna Price at Harrods There’s no need to post for posting’s sake. Be genuine in what you “like” and share engaging with your LinkedIn community should be organic. The results derived from this approach will be much more fruitful and long-lasting. Natasha Mills of OCC Computer Personnel I think the most important thing to remember whilst using Linkedin is to make it personal!! Dont just be a jobs feed! People like to know they are dealing with a human being. Leesa Fernandes at Thomson Reuters Use LinkedIn as a way to connect with and remember everyone you meet at networking events, conferences, social gatherings â€" you never know when a connection may become useful or when you might become useful to them in the future. I also use LinkedIn as a way to research people before I meet them â€" having some background on them makes conversation a lot more relevant and engaging. Ella Liang at Portland Resourcing   Keep LinkedIn messages or InMails short, sweet and professional Keep your LinkedIn profile updated with latest news Use LinkedIn as a job board update jobs in related groups, your status updates and even on your profile Keep your eyes open on the news and update in your network then react! e.g. say congratulations, like or comment someones update, endorse skills etc Expand LinkedIn network/connections every day Download LinkedIn on ALL mobile devices and check it whenever you have a minute Keep calm and LinkedIn Work hard and play hard Do you have any useful LinkedIn tips? Please share below in the comments!

4 Ways to Dress for the Job You Want

4 Ways to Dress for the Job You Want You have probably heard the old adage “dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” While this may seem like another old saying that is unusable, it is actually quite applicable for many work situations. If you want to be treated like you are in upper management, begin dressing like you belong there. The air you give off at work can change the perception you give, from being “receptionist” to “CEO.” Included here are a few ways to alter your appearance and dress for the job you want. Become More Modest While prudes aren’t popular, it is much worse to be viewed as the office floozy. Beginning by lengthening your skirts a bit and fastening that top button, you can keep your coworkers and clients eyes on your face. A woman who relies on her assets to get her attention and promotions is one who lacks confidence and capabilities. While you may still be looking for a lifelong partner, save that search for outside the office and keep things professional while you’re on the clock. Change Your Hair If you have ever been into dying your hair unnatural colors, stop it now. Unless you are working in a very forward-thinking office, you will be viewed as irreverent and un-professional. Keep your hair dyed natural colors and styled conservatively without any strange spiking or gelling. If you find yourself getting hair-boredom from the lack of color change, consider altering the length instead. Before you go cutting your hair into weird patterns, try changing the length and look with hair extensions. They will not be noticed in the workplace as radical but you can have your hair curly, straight or long with just a small adjustment. Dress Professional Wearing fluffy sweaters to work may be a nice way to stay comfy and fly under the “professional garb” radar, but it’s not doing your upwardly moving career any favors. If you want to be climbing the ladder you’ve got to bring your A-game. This means wearing crisp suits, straight skirts and heels. If you prefer to go the less feminine route, wear a business suit with flats or other dressy shoes. Add Small Personal Touches You may be concerned that dressing in a professional manner will give you the appearance of a “faceless suit” but you can still achieve individuality in other ways. Find conservative looking clothes in black, brown or taupe and made with wool or wool blends. After finding your professional bases, you can mix it up a little with a bright scarf or personalized bracelet. Keep the jewelry classy but add your own touches of color and individualization.

Personal Branding Interview Tamar Weinberg - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Branding Interview Tamar Weinberg - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke with Tamar Weinberg, who is the community manager at   Mashable, and author of the new book The New Community Rules.  She also just had a baby! In this interview, Tamar discusses social media tools for business purposes, blogging and microblogging, explains how important it is for companies to join the conversation online and much more. Which social media tool is the least effective for brand awareness: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Digg, Flickr or Delicious? All of the aforementioned tools are effective for brand awareness, but it depends on your actual goals. Are you looking to build a personal brand or a larger corporate brand? I suppose what comes to mind is really LinkedIn in terms of limiting how you really can build that larger brand. When I look at LinkedIn, I consider it to be a great tool for personal branding since it essentially works as an online resume and can establish the individual as a powerful expert in his/her specific subject matter. For larger brands, you should consider another alternative, such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Digg, Flickr, or Delicious, all of which can work in your favor if you leverage the communities and tools effectively. How important are honesty and transparency when building a community for a business? Honesty and transparency are critical. Nowadays, information is becoming increasingly more public and people are easily able to share their dissatisfaction about companies by starting a blog or by writing a Tweet. Its easy to publish any content online, and these messages can spread like wildfire. Your reputation is at stake here, and its really easy for that empire youve been trying to build for decades to topple down after a public relations fiasco that you simply didnt manage properly. Do you think blogging will fade out and microblogging will completely replace it in 2 years? Nope I dont. I think that there will still be plenty of thought leaders who will continue to build their personal brands and names by writing long, lengthy articles that can be referenced in the future both online and in print. I certainly understand that 140 characters is easier for many, but I think its a bad idea to only Tweet and not maintain your blog. With Oprahs foray into Twitter, most of us are lost in a sea of folks who use Twitter to network and chat with friends, but Id love to read more than 140 character thoughts from some of these folks who have instead decided to choose Twitter over their really powerful blogs. If you have something to say in more than 140 characters, dont turn it into a 280-character Tweet instead; use your blog. ?? Do you have a case study where a company was successful using social media for marketing? I sure do, but youll have to read Chapter 4 of the book to find out! ?? Small and large businesses can benefit from social media marketing and I strongly encourage all businesses to seek out the various opportunities available to them. Actually, if you really do want a case study, I found one via Guy Kawasaki on the OPEN Forum blog (a blog that I strongly recommend for small to mid size business folks). In a nutshell, Mayo Clinic involved themselves in podcasting, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, the latter three which cost $0. They also invested in a Flip Video camera and created three customized blogs, all of which cost less than $200. The bottom line is that social media marketing is an affordable tactic to market your business and if you understand and leverage the communities efficiently, you really can harness and unless the power to get people to start talking about your brand and build a strong following behind your product or service. Should every company get into the social media game? If a company refuses to, where will they be left? I would say that there is absolutely no reason for companies NOT to get into the social media game. The big issue for most companies is giving up control of the message. I argue that people are already talking about you in social media channels, and its best for you to get involved with social media to nurture the mindset of the community. You cant always change how people are thinking but you can respond favorably and help build strong relationships that can last for the long term. You certainly can help improve negative perceptions, but you must be willing to try. Im hoping that all companies involve themselves in social media over the next few months or years. I wouldnt recommend that anyone sits on the sidelines and hopes that this technology goes away. I firmly believe that social media is here to stay; people prefer to foster relationships with other folks who have similar interests, and there are online communities on just about every corner of the web that make this happen. People are always asking about baby products on baby forums; carpenters are always looking for the latest and greatest tools or services on their woodworking forums. Many conversations go back to how individuals can use real-life tangible goods and services to benefit themselves; its important to tap into these communities or youd be missing out on powerful opportunities to establish yourself. Those who dont involve themselves are likely not going to see long term growth because the word of mouth marketing that occurs so easily online is simply not there. - Tamar Weinberg is a freelance writer who specializes in social media consulting and strategy, blogger outreach, reputation management, and search engine marketing (SEO, link building, and Pay Per Click Marketing). She has been involved in the Internet since the early 90s and has dabbled in social online interactions for more than fifteen years. Tamar has been working nearly exclusively with Internet Marketing side since 2006, though she also has experience with web hosting and technical support and can handle complicated WordPress installations and configurations with ease. The Portable Brand Communicate and View People Wherever You Go - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

The Portable Brand Communicate and View People Wherever You Go - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career One of my predictions for 2008 and beyond is that our online brands will transition from email to blog and become portable. Not only that but they will be fully mobile and viewable by anyone at anytime. Again, those who dont build a thorough and Googleable presence online will suffer from reach, but gain from privacy. Either way, if you dont define your brand online, others have the ability by either purchasing yourname.com or blogging about you. Just about everything will be electronic in the future, so the need to brand yourself online will always grow. Enter the Apple iPhone and Amazon Kindle. When your online, you can be searchable through Google and when there are mobile devices that have browser capabilities, your brand can be found just about anywhere. You can be in a car, on a plane, in an exotic location, in the bathroom, maybe even the shower at some point (waterproof iPhone?) and find just about anyone who has a Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace, Twitter or blog profiles. I wouldnt be surprised if hiring managers use their phones to do a background check on candidates before, after and even during interviews at some point. The Amazon Kindle is Amazons attempt to digitize all things print, including books, magazine and newspapers. Due to the decline of advertising in print, radio and broadcast, many companies, such as Amazon are forced to provide for more flexibility and innovation in their offerings. It is possible that a decade from now, print may be dead altogether. There was even an open debate about it in Fast Company Magazi ne. Here are some statistics that may shine some light on that theory: 14% of respondents called the newspaper their most important source of news. 31% of young adults called TV newscasts the most important source for news(Carnegic Corp Research). Newspaper ad sales continue their long, sad decline, down 7.4 percent in the third quarter of 2007. The Australian version of the well regarded print magazine PC World is to cease publication in an offline form as off January. Surgeon Generals Warning All media is going portable rather quickly, which should be a quick alert for you. In 2008, please work harder on brand maintenance and reputation management, so that you are better prepared for this massive transformation. With camera phones, digital cameras, web cameras, your brand can easily be exposed and there are so many different outlets where it can be submitted now, including Seesmic (video Twitter), YouTube, embedded on blogs and within social networks such as Facebook. After submission, it can be read on the Kindle or seen on an iPhone. What are your thoughts readers?
